Our Hope is Secure

(in St. Kitts, July 2009)

On July 14, we met with Dr. Whitesides again to go over the results. The baby was a girl, we found out, and she had an extra chromosome #9. In reading Psalm 139 Matt and I had prayed for the Lord as He was "knitting", claiming that scripture and asking him to not miss a stitch. It is funny to know he 'threw an extra' chromosome in on purpose. He knew the plan, he knew the outcome... He knows it still. We are the ones without that clarity. And yet He calls us to trust in Him.

We named her Hope because we continue to have hope, to trust, to look forward. We have a Hope that is secure, that is a future that is certain (with Her and Noah, with Jesus, in Heaven). Romans 5 has become a favorite passage as it expounds on the true Hope we have in Christ. Romans 5:3-5 speaks of the result of trials producing character and leading to hope. "And hope does not disappoint us, because God poured out His love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit..." We truly understand not that our individual dreams will not become a disappointment if they are not realized, but rather that our eternal hope will never disappoint us. True hope is more than a passing whim of hoping it won't rain, it is the expectation of an outcome. We know the final chapter, and are grateful for the outpouring of grace and blessings He has brought to our lives while we wait for that awesome day.
Hebrews 11:1 says 'Faith is the substance of things hoped for.'
Ephesians 3:14-20 speaks of our family in heaven (I can't wait!) and contains our marriage-verse, (20) "He who is able to do more than all we ask or imagine" which I love and cherish all the more now with new understanding as He works in my personal relationship with Him.
My heart again longs for those who do not know him as their personal Savior to join us and invite Him to be their Lord. It isn't hard, it just takes the humble prayer asking forgiveness of sin (we all have sinned at least once, but the penalty for even one sin is separation from God). Asking that Jesus, who died blameless for our sake, be seen in your place thus accepting Him as Savior. When you invite the Lord into your life you will be amazed at the way things seem different, better... you will have a certainty for your future too. Your Hope will be secure!
